We really love going to see Coach Joe weekly. Kids are so excited to show up and punch and kick and learn a new skill. He’s patient with little active ones but knows exactly how to get them to pay attention and keep them motivated to continue learning. Even when we see friends outside of class, they always mention how they love the class and how their kids are always looking forward to going back just as mine are. We were first going to a gym mostly for adults but mine got into a class alone which they didn’t like. There were no other kids and mine weren’t happy going. No excitement. No fun. Just business. We had planned to check out other places in town but Meta was our first visit and we didn’t go anywhere else and signed right up after the first meeting. I’m glad we stayed. It’s always the highlight of our week and my kids are always asking when they’re going back. Their progression is incredible. Their punches and kicks are stronger weekly and they’re becoming more and more serious about getting it right with the encouragement of Joe. It takes someone special to lead little ones to become successful with the right motivation and patience and also ability to help them grow more.

If you’re curious about Jiu Jitsu but feel totally intimidated by the sport, I can’t recommend Coach Joe and Meta Mixed Martial Arts enough. I’ve been to some Jiu Jitsu gyms where everyone walks around puffed up and ready to dominate like they’re training for the octagon next week. (At one of those gyms I actually left with a black eye and bruised rib during my trial week!)
At Meta Mixed Martial Arts, Coach Joe was very patient with my inexperience. Even the other students had a great vibe to them, immediately making me feel welcomed. I have to say, Jiu Jitsu is definitely the best work out of my life. You leave somehow feeling completely drained of energy, but totally energized.
I highly recommend giving Meta Mixed Martial Arts a try. If you’ve ever wanted to try the sport, this is the best place to get started and a great way to join a community of great people that are passionate and welcoming.

We love Meta Mixed Martial Arts!! Our 3 kids do both Bang Muay Thai and Brazilian Jujitsu here. We are very impressed with how quickly they have progressed, Coach Joe's skills and the way he teaches. About Us

Joseph is the Owner/ head Professor of Meta Mixed Martial Arts, where he leads the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Bang Muay Thai programs. He has been working with children as an educator since 2008 and began training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Muay Thai/ Kickboxing in 2011.

His teaching methodology includes reinforcement-based strategies to help kids stay engaged. Joe has been training under Senseis Duane Ludwig and Bas Rutten’s Bang Muay Thai system since 2015, where he holds a Brown rank, and is also a Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu under Tahi Burns. Professor Joe continues his training at B-Team to continue learning and implementing/ teaching the more modern elements of the art.

In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his wife, Amber, and 2 kids.
